Fine Victorian burr walnut jewellery box by Mawson, Swan & Morgan

A superb Victorian burr walnut jewellery box by Mawson, Swan & Morgan, Newcastle on Tyne.  The well chosen burr walnut veneers edged in ebony, the top with a large vacant brass shield shaped cartouche above an engraved swag, the front with matching keyhole escutcheon.

The box opens to reveal the original fitted interior, re-lined in a purple cotton moire fabric and complimentary luxurious purple silk velvet. The lid contains a reversible mirror released by a button behind the lock keep, with leather document pouch behind. The two drawers retain their orginal decorative brass handles.
