Fine rosewood jewellery box by Edwards, Holborn.

A superb quality early 19th century rosewood jewellery box by Edwards, King Street, Holborn, London. The wonderful rosewood veneers banded in brass with additional brass stringing and decoration to the corners. The lid has a central decorative engraved brass cartouche. The sides have flush fitting brass military style carry handles.

The box opens to reveal the original interior in burgundy Moroccan leather and shiraz silk velvet, the lift-out tray revealing further storage areas beneath. The bases have been re-lined in new silk velvet to match the original lid to make the box clean and useable.

The ruched velvet cover in the lid drops to reveal a document pouch to the rear and concealed original leather mirror which is in excellent order.

The inside of the box is decorated with further brass lines.

The box retains the original leather carry case in lightly distressed condition (most of these are perished beyond repair). Three straps and buckles worn but intact (tip of left strap detached but present).

With working Bramah lock & original key retaining traces of original gold plating.
