A fine quality Victorian birds eye maple travelling sewing / writing box, with marquetry inlays to the top and all four sides in various exotic woods. The box opens to reveal the original fitted interior with lift-out tray with twin lidded compartments and two original leather thimble holders. To the rear are a pair of pin cushions and a velvet covered storage area.

The inside of the lid has a marquetry panel over the silk velvet dating the box to 1871. To the front of the box a brass pin releases the spring loaded lower drawer which is fitted with a writing slope with original surface.
