Spectacular coromandel jewellery box by Hausburg, Liverpool.

An absolutely stunning coromandel jewellery box by F L Hausburg of Church Street, Liverpool, the top and front with exhibition quality inlays in silver, gold and rose gold coloured metal, the central cartouche of  birds in abalone shell surrounded by intricate foliate motifs. Further enhanced with various burr veneers and mother of pearl.

To the sides the box has flush fitting handles and further brass line inlays. Unlike many boxes of the period the quality of the coromandel does not reduce on the sides or back of this box and there are even brass lines to the back.

Hausburg was trained in France and the French influence can clearly be seen in the elaborate inlays on what is otherwise a very English box design.

The box opens to reveal a fully fitted original interior in plum Moroccan leather with gilt tooled edges. There are two lift-out trays with silver plated decorative handles. To the lid the rouched velvet cover has a brass catch which release a document holder behind containing the makers name both embossed in the leather and a paper label.

The silk velvet to the base of the sections have been replaced as the original had perished, otherwise all original. The drawer to the front of the box opens with a key to reveal a totally original fully fitted interior.

With two fully working locks and tassled keys.

An exceptional example in superb condition.
